Ideal Candidate:

CPA with public accounting / industry mix
10 – 12 years ideal but will look at someone with less if incredible experience (no CFO types – only true controllers)
3+ years in Venture back / high growth start-up
Been through system conversion (going from QB to undecided new system – deciding now so just been through process a plus)
Technology company, but NOT SaaS /  Hardware/software and multiple elements (does not want someone that is ONLY SaaS or has no technology experience – period)
Has been with larger entity through growth period (i.e. what they want to be next – under $50M and expect rapid growth – so someone that has been with entity of larger size)
Hands-on / team player -given still start-up they need someone to roll up sleeves
Accounting issues:  R&D credits / govt. grants / multiple deliverables / construction as well but not heavy here / some inventory / financial reporting and processes critical in role

Oversees four at the present time (expected to grow)

They are currently remote but will be back in office in future (flexibility is there as needed, but fast-paced role)

No current controller (had consultant in role)


We’re looking for an experienced Controller to join the finance/accounting team. The right candidate will have experience with disruptive technologies and high growth companies, and an ability to help us build systems for growth, including: the development of certain accounting policies, preparation for audit, management of accounting teams, and oversight of our day-to-day accounting. The experience areas of priority are project-based reporting and policy setting (especially around hardware, software, multiple deliverables, etc).  You will be part of a team of four, including a CFO, a senior accountant, a procurement specialist, and this role. You will report to the CFO.



Manage accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Cost Accounting, and Revenue Recognition
Develop accounting policies and document business processes to maintain and strengthen internal controls
Be responsible for the coordination of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close processes
Prepare internal and external financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Research technical accounting issues, and drive updates related to new GAAP guidelines.
Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
Oversee and manage annual financial audit and tax compliance with external Audit and Tax Partners
Support the CFO by providing requisite data for financial analyses, model, etc

CPA required
Advanced degree in Accounting, in addition to a Bachelor’s degree
Strong preference for experience in a disruptive technology
7 or more years of relevant work experience, including people management
Proven technical strengths in project-based reporting and setting accounting policy
Proven ability to establish and manage a new accounting team
Strong knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS.
Strong knowledge of accounting systems, expense software, Microsoft Excel, inventory management systems, revenue recognition, purchasing, and reporting.
Ability to construct and use a three-statement financial model.
Good interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate with team
Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
