AAFA Announces Appointment of Derek DeWinter of the DeWinter Group as 2018-2019 Membership Chair to the Board of Directors
The American Association of Finance and Accounting, or AAFA, is proud to announce the appointment of Derek DeWinter as the 2018-2019 Membership Chair to the Board of Directors. A member of AAFA since 2001, Derek DeWinter has served on AAFA’s Executive Committee for over 13 years serving as Secretary, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, President, Past President, and now Membership Committee Chair for the third consecutive year.
Derek DeWinter began his career in accounting and finance recruiting in 1994 before founding the DeWinter Group, AAFA’s San Francisco and Silicon Valley affiliate, in 2000 alongside his partner, Mike Tomasello. Today Derek leads the company’s retained financial search division, DeWinter Partners, working with both clients and candidates to identify long-lasting partnerships for accounting and finance executives. As Founding Partner, he also works with his partnership team to set strategic direction, develop business, hire and train, and occasionally shares a funny story picked up during his 20+ years in the Search Business.
In addition to overseeing day to day operations at the DeWinter Group, Derek also sits on the Board of Directors of Watermark, a non–profit membership and development organization comprised of executive women who have risen to the top of their fields, and is on the Board of the Los Gatos Chapter of boys team charity (btc).
As a result of Derek’s two decades of experience working with accounting and finance employers and job seekers in the Bay Area, we could not be more pleased with his continued dedication throughout 2018 and 2019. As Membership Chair for AAFA, he will lead all efforts related to identifying, qualifying, and onboarding executive staffing agencies into AAFA’s exclusive membership network. By hand selecting each affiliate, the membership chair drives the overall improvement, positioning, and direction of the organization’s reputation and international network of accounting and finance recruitment firms.
Derek is a graduate of Santa Clara University and lives in Los Gatos, California with his wife and 3 children. He has lived in Oakland, Michigan, Germany, and Oahu but is from Maui and yes, has been known to surf, spearfish, and can talk pidgin if necessary.
We would like to thank Derek for his continued commitment to the AAFA’s mission. We know his experience and guidance will be of great value to AAFA’s ongoing improvement and success throughout the coming year.
